CO-GAZING

Overview

CO-GAZING is an interactive computational artwork that examines the evolving relationship between human perception and machine vision.

Key Elements

  • Two 3D-scanned Canon cameras (IXUS130 & EOS series), representing different technological eras
  • Built in TouchDesigner using face tracking, particle systems, and real-time interaction
  • Webcam-activated behavior: cameras awaken only when a viewer appears

Interactions

  • Reciprocal gaze: camera lenses rotate to follow the viewer’s face
  • Keyboard “1” as shutter trigger:
    • Old camera → yellow, fading, nostalgic particle dispersion
    • Modern camera → colorful glow and sharpening focus
  • Face-capture zones simulate photo-taking with on-screen snapshots
